FirstKey

Terms of use

Last updated November 3, 2026

These terms are the rules for using FirstKey. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use FirstKey. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information.

What FirstKey is

FirstKey helps you plan home maintenance, keep your home's records, connect landlords and tenants, and find local pros and store deals. It's free for homeowners. If we add paid plans, you'll see the price before you pay, and you can cancel through the App Store or Google Play.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or older to create an account.
  • Give accurate information, and keep your password to yourself.
  • You're responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else got in.

Advice in FirstKey is general information

Reminders, tips, checklists and answers from the AI helper are general information to help you decide what to do. They can be wrong or miss something about your home. They don't replace a licensed professional, a home inspection, or the maker's instructions.

  • You decide what to do, and whether to do it yourself.
  • Don't do work you're not qualified for. In Ontario, gas work needs a TSSA-registered contractor, and most electrical work needs an ESA-licensed electrical contractor.
  • Reminders depend on your phone's settings and connection, so they may not always arrive. Keep your own eye on anything important.

In an emergency, call 911. If you smell gas, see fire or hear a CO alarm, get everyone out first, then call 911 and your gas company from outside. Don't rely on FirstKey in an emergency.

Pros and stores

  • Pros and stores on FirstKey are independent businesses. They aren't FirstKey's employees or agents.
  • We check the licence details a pro gives us before they're listed. We don't guarantee their work, prices, insurance or availability.
  • An agreement for a job, and paying for it, is between you and the pro. Ask for a written quote for bigger jobs.
  • Stores set their own deals and are responsible for honouring them.

If you're a business on FirstKey, you agree to:

  • hold the licences and insurance you say you have, and keep your details up to date;
  • honour the bookings you confirm and the deals you post;
  • use a customer's details only for the job they booked, and not for unrelated marketing;
  • follow Canada's anti-spam law (CASL) and consumer protection law.

We may pause or remove a listing that breaks these terms or gets serious complaints.

Landlords and tenants

FirstKey helps landlords send notices and handle repair requests. Landlords are still responsible for following Ontario's Residential Tenancies Act and the Landlord and Tenant Board's rules. FirstKey isn't legal advice. Check that each notice is right for your situation.

What you add

  • You own the information, files and photos you add.
  • You let FirstKey store them and show them to the people you share with, only to run the app.
  • Only add things you have the right to share.
  • Don't store door, alarm or lockbox codes in FirstKey.

Please don't

  • use FirstKey for anything illegal, or to harass anyone;
  • post fake listings, reviews or deals, or send spam;
  • try to get into other people's accounts or get around FirstKey's security;
  • copy FirstKey's content in bulk, or take the app apart to copy it.

Ending your use

You can delete your account in the app at any time. See delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you first.

Changes to FirstKey

We keep improving FirstKey, so features may change. The app may sometimes be unavailable, for example during updates.

Limits on our responsibility

FirstKey is provided as it is. As far as the law allows:

  • FirstKey isn't responsible for damage or loss from work done by you or by a pro, or from relying on a reminder, tip or answer;
  • FirstKey isn't responsible for indirect losses, such as lost income;
  • if FirstKey is found responsible for a loss, the most it owes is the greater of what you paid FirstKey in the 12 months before the claim, or $100.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under Ontario's consumer protection law that can't be taken away by agreement.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For big changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using FirstKey after that, the new terms apply.
